Overview

The PAL Sidebar User Interface (UI) provides a flexible, generic interface capability for interacting with learning components. The PAL Sidebar UI provides several built-in widgets for collecting user feedback, responses to suggestions, and status information that can provide essential data to drive learning components. The UI is based on the freeware Desktop Sidebar plug-in framework, which makes it straightforward to expand the UI to include additional widgets.

The PAL Sidebar architecture is split into two main components. The Sidebar Proxy, to be implemented by the developer, is used by the learning application to control the Sidebar display. The Sidebar display is a set of interaction widgets that support the display and collection of learning-related information. Focus and connection display the information about the selected object and objects related to it. The suggestion area displays recommendations from the learning applications and collects user feedback. The notification area presents alerts and informational messages.
